KGAP+ Batch6 – Canada Challenge –2021/10/20

KGAP+ (Keihanna Global Acceleration Program Plus) will hold a preliminary round in Canada for Batch 6.

KGAP+ is a startup support program that attracts promising startups from Japan and abroad with the goal of conducting PoC and pilot tests in collaboration with large Japanese enterprises as well as overseas expansion. So far, 63 startups from 9 countries have participated in the program, and 48 startups of 83% from Bach1 to 4 have been able to implement PoC or enter into collaborative discussions with the program’s support.

KGAP+ has been working closely with Canada, and in addition to our core partner NRC IRAP and Delegation General of Quebec in Tokyo, which has been working with us since last year, Alberta Japan Office has recommended promising startups. 8 companies, including those recommended by investors, will be pitching their innovative technologies and services for the Batch 6 position. This is an opportunity to learn about the Canadian ecosystem and meet Canadian startups.

    1. Calogy solution
Calogy Solutions is a Université de Sherbrooke spin-off and award wining start-up with a novel technology for Li-ion battery thermal management in electric vehicles. Our solution called TGP (Thermal Ground Plane) is a low-cost solution that will keep battery cells in the recommended temperature range leading to enhanced battery safety, increased battery lifetime and lower initial cost of electric vehicles.
      [Energy]
    2. AI BATTERY BOOST
A.I. BATTERY BOOST is an early-stage company based in Montréal, developing a proprietary platform battery conditioning technology based on advanced materials science and artificial intelligence, capable of increasing by up to 50% the amount of energy available from a rechargeable battery. The name of this technology is Interfacial Process Stimulation, IPSTM. IPS works by lowering the resistance of the battery, which in turn decreases the losses occurring while current is passing during charging/discharging, leading to significantly faster charging as well. This patent-pending technology does not require changes in the construction or the chemistry of the battery, and can be applied to different battery chemistries and sizes.
      [Energy]
    3. Dyze Design Inc.
Dyze Design develops the critical components at the heart of 3D printers. The products offered by the company are mainly hotends, extruders, sensors and other kinds of accessories that control the supply and deposition of the raw material. The company’s mission is “To empower people to make the tools and things they need, where and when they need them.” Dyze Design meets this mission by developing products that improve the reliability and usability of 3d printers and enable materials to be printed. In a nutshell, the company wants to become the “Intel Inside” of 3D printers : To position itself as the leading supplier of extrusion systems for all printers operating under the material extrusion’s principle sold throughout the world.

Fourth generation proprietary crystalline technology composed entirely of natural minerals and containing almost no chlorides. Changes the way cement hydrates without cracking, and when combined with cement, creates a completely impermeable structure that exhibits high tensile and flexural strength, both in soil cement applications and in structural concrete. In addition to being environmentally friendly, this construction material can be installed using conventional construction equipment.
      [Construction]
    5. Qblocks
Qblocks develops Q Blocks, software that enables millions of idle consumer devices to safely perform heavy workloads in machine learning at a tenth of the cost of AWS. Helping teams of scientists and engineers get super-fast computing results.
