“KGAP+ DAY -Batch 4 DEMO DAY-” was held online on February 19 as a finale of the Batch 4 activity.

The Batch 4 program started on November 10, 2020; the selected 13 companies from 6 countries had won over the screening stage with 54 companies from10 countries. Aiming at PoCs or pilot tests, the 13 startups have, for the last three months, refined their business models for the Japanese market, while actively holding online meetings with potential Japanese partners. The event’s organizers, i.e. ATR’s Business Development Office, Kansai Research Institute’s Meta-Comfort Smart Society Promotion Division and Kyoto Industrial Support Organization 21, appreciated strong networking and mentoring support by JETRO, Kyoto and Osaka Prefectures, Kyoto Chie-sangyo-no Mori (private institution), as well as various financial institutions, investors and private companies. The Batch 4 led to 14 successful business matchings.

During the Demo-Day, the startups from Canada, USA, Japan, India, Israel and Finland, heated up their online live-relayed pitching having sought for further business partners and clients. Winners of KGAP+ Batch 3 Award as well as of Global Business Matching Award from “The 11th Business Creation Contest” by Shinagawa Business Club, also joined. The event was a great success, with a total of 271 participants from Japan and overseas, which served as a forum for the companies to introduce their innovative and leading technologies or services.

In July 2020, the Japanese Government selected “Osaka-Kyoto-Hyogo/Kobe Consortium” as one of a Global Startup City, the national program. Since then, relevant stakeholders supporting startups in Kyoto, Osaka and Hyogo Prefectures as well as Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe cities have started to work closely. As part of momentum, the KGAP+ Batch 4 was held under the Regional Business Conference Program of the joint-JETRO-Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Also, this event was held in conjunction with the International Innovation Conference “Hack Osaka” and supported by the largest number of institutions ever, including Embassies from different countries. We will push this high tide forward to promote further global startups and to establish promising ecosystem-basis.
