Front Line of Researches on Neuroimaging and its Societal Implementation
According to the recent researches on neuroimaging, the human brain has large-scale network structures even in a static state and it is possible to identify a particular network for each brain function by using neuroimaging. It is also anticipated that your personal traits such as IQ, mental disorder, and not to mention, age and gender, can be identified by checking your brain network structures. In the future, the outcomes of these researches will be implemented in the society through commercialization, along with further researches on the dynamism of  the structures. In this event we would like you to discuss the ways and challenges  of proceeding the societal implementation of neuroimaging by inviting specialists on the front line of researches on this field.

Speaker Profile

 Profile of Panelists

Okito Yamashita
Dr.Yamashita got master’s degree at Dept of Mathematical Engineering and Information Physics in the University of Tokyo in 2001, and received his PhD. from the Department of Statistical Science in The Graduate University of Advanced Studies(SOKENDAI) in 2004. In 2004 he joined ATR as a researcher, and from 2013 he is the head of Computational Brain Imaging Lab. His research interest is development of data analysis tools for human neuro-imaging based on Bayesian learning theory and statistical timeseries analysis. He has been involved in software development including VBMEG and spare estimation toolbox.

Talma Hendler
Talma Hendler (MD PhD) is a professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at Tel Aviv University, and the founding director of the Tel Aviv Center for Brain Function. Professor Hendler holds an MD from Tel Aviv University and a PhD from SUNY at Stony Brook, NY. and is a licensed psychiatrist in Israel. Prof. Hendler leads the neuropsychiatry  and neuromodulation research team and an associated investigator of all the other 6 research teams at the TLV-CBF.

Sylvain Baillet
Dr.Baillet obtained his PhD in Physics from the University of Paris in 1998. Then he was a research associate at University of Southern California. In 2000, he was a principal investigator in Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique(CNRS, France) and in 2005 he became the head of Brain Imaging group at CNRS Laboratory. After taking the position as Associate Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin and the founding Scientific Director at Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee, he joined McGill University in Montreal in 2011. He is currently the head of McConnel Brain Imaging Centre at this university. He has produced 250 publications in journals and conferences, and delivered concrete, practical tools and resources shared with the scientific community. These include the development of Brainstorm: a free, open source software for electrophysiology, EEG and MEG, with a community of 16,000 users. Also, his patented work in acute stroke MRI evaluation was used in national clinical trials, obtained CE/FDA certifications, and is now marketed worldwide.

Roberto Pascual-Marqui
Dr.Pascual-Marqui received the PhD degree in biological sciences from the Cuban Neuroscience Center, and was the head of the Neurophysics Lab at this Center from 1981. In 1992, he joined the Dietrich Lehmann Brain Mapping Lab, University Hospital Zurich. Since 1996 to the present, he is the senior research scientist with the KEY Institute for Brain-Mind Research, University of Zurich. In addition, since 2010, he is the visiting professor at Kansai Medical University and at Shiga University of Medical Science.
